I now pronounce you... A local.

Last weekend, this showed up on my Facebook feed and I can't resist sharing... In this episode of Anglophenia ("British culture with an American accent"), host Siobhan Thompson asks US citizen and fellow YouTube star Rusty Ward of Science Friction to pronounce some British place names, and hilarity ensues. I love this because it reminds me of every time I've ever landed somewhere new and had to learn to speak all over again. And it reminds me of every time I've ever felt chuffed (in British English: pleased, proud) to ace some unspoken test of local-ness. (Can we agree that that is a word?) I used to live next to Paddington Station and people stopped me for directions several times a day. I was so thrilled to be able to tell them how to get where they wanted to go (and, occasionally, how to pronounce it). Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
